To mark India’s 79th Independence Day and to commemorate the Silver Jubilee Celebration of St Raymond’s PU College, Vamanjoor, a life-saving initiative was undertaken on 15th August 2025 in the college premises. The event – a Blood Donation and Health Camp – was organized by the NSS and Rovers & Rangers Units of the college in association with the Lions Club, Kavoor, Jeevandhara Social service trust, Kulshekar with active medical partnership from Father Muller’s Hospital, Mangalore.
The Inaugural ceremony was commenced with a soulful prayer song, beautifully rendered by the college choir under the guidance of Mrs. Anitha Ferrao, setting a serene and reverent tone for the day. Rev Sr Flavia BS together with the dignitaries, ceremoniously inaugurated the Health Check-up and Blood Donation Camp by lighting the traditional diya.
The programme was presided over by Rev Sr Flavia BS, Coordinator, Pastoral and Social Apostolate. In her inspiring presidential address, she highlighted the transformative role of youth in building a compassionate society. She remarked, “Donating blood is more than a medical act – it is a pledge of humanity, a conscious choice to give someone the gift of life. Each drop of blood carries with it the power to heal, to renew, and to inspire hope.” She urged students to carry this spirit of service into all aspects of their lives.
The Chief Guest, Lion Jagadeesh K, Secretary of the Lions Club, Kavoor, stressed the urgent need for regular voluntary blood donations. He stated, “In times of need, nothing can replace human blood. It cannot be manufactured, stored indefinitely, or bought – it must come from the kindness of donors. When you donate, you are not only saving lives, but also strengthening the very fabric of our society.” He encouraged the youth to become lifelong donors and health awareness advocates.




The occasion was graced by the presence of Mrs Gayathri – Regional Chairperson, Mrs Nirmala Pramod – Zonal Chairperson, Mr Ln Manohar Ullal – President, Lions Club Kavoor, Mr Ln Raghava Padeel – Former President, Mr Ln Ashok Moily – Coordinator, Mr Priya Pereira, Camp coordinator and Associate Professor, Father Muller’s Hospital.
Mr Mayyadi – PTA Vice President, Mr Merwin Jaison Vas – Vice President of Alumni Association, and Mr Elias – Secretary were also present on the dais.
The event successfully brought together alumni, NSS volunteers, Rovers & Rangers, students from Infant Mary Hostel, Kulshekar, and local community members, united in their commitment to this noble cause. The health camp offered free medical check-ups, including blood pressure, sugar levels, ECG, skin and general health screenings, benefiting a large number of attendees.
Every step – from donor registration to post-donation care – was meticulously planned and executed by trained healthcare professionals in coordination with Father Muller’s Hospital. The arrangements included a hygienic setup, necessary medical equipment, and adequate staffing to ensure smooth functioning.
Mrs Raina anchored the programme, Mrs Nivya welcomed the gathering, and Mrs Sandhya proposed the vote of thanks. The entire event was guided and supported by Sr Dr Sadhana BS, Principal, and coordinated by Mr Jayaram, NSS Coordinator.
As a token of gratitude, all donors received a Certificate of Appreciation, recognising their generosity and inspiring a culture of empathy. This initiative not only promoted health awareness but also fostered a sense of responsibility towards building a healthier, stronger India.
The management of St. Raymond’s PU College extends profound gratitude to all parents, staff members, alumni, and voluntary donors who came forward to contribute to this noble mission – proving once again that a single act of kindness can ripple through countless lives.
