Year of Establishment : 1984

History

Aided St Raymond’s High School, Vamanjoor named after our revered Founder, the Servant of God, Raymond Francis Camillus Mascarenhas, - occupies the pride of place among the rural people. Before its Foundation on July 21st, 1984 there was hardly a high school in the vicinity of Vamanjoor, though there were four Government Higher Primary Schools, all in full strength. After Primary studies, students had to travel to Mangalore for High school studies. The transportation facility was also very rare. So most of the students particularly the girls  discontinued Schooling. The need for the Kannada Medium High School was strongly felt by the landless families migrating into the surrounding villages, resulting in a sharp increase in the local population and this dream was fulfilled by the Bethany Educational Society in the year 1983 along with the overwhelming co-operation of the Headmistresses who toiled hard in this noble cause of making the dream come true. A small seed was sown and has grown as a mighty tree spreading its branches far and wide. The following year saw the laying of the foundation stone, for the proposed high school building. Sri Belle Bhavani Rao BA, LT, a noted educationist, was the chief guest, and Sri N Shiva Rao, MLC, who had been a pillar of support, also graced the occasion. The School commenced its first academic year on 01 August 1984 with 69 students and two committed and dedicated Staff. Though co-educational, the target group was adolescent girls.

Sr Mariebelle was the first Headmistress of the School. It was during her tenure, the school building was constructed, which the late Bishop of Mangalore, Rt Rev Basil D Souza, blessed and inaugurated on 23 February 1985. The First batch of 43 students answered SSLC Examination in March 1987 with 98% success. The Department granted permanent recognition to the school on 09 May 1989. At Present, we have the strength of 106 students under the leadership of an eminent Headmistress, Sr Vidya L Pinto, who is making steady progress in leaps and bounds by encouraging students in academics and co-curricular activities winning accolades in sports, Prathibha Karanji, Inspire Award and other activities. The school has 5 Aided staff and 3 Mid-Day Meal Cooks who work tirelessly and cheerfully for the well-being of the students.

The school provides ample opportunities for the students, for their all-round development such as Sports, Computer classes, dance classes, Competitions etc. PM POSHAN (Mid-day meal) is given to the students, from VIII-X Standard.  In 2020-21 and  2022-23 School secured 100% results in SSLC Examination. The PTA, which began in 1994, makes a significant contribution, to the well-being of the school. Alumni Association, started in 2022-2023, is an added feather to the school system.

Under the auspices of the Karnataka Open School (KOS), Mysore, the Bethany Educational Society made another attempt in October 1996 to provide opportunities for school dropouts to complete their Secondary Course through an open School. St Raymond’s  Open School functions with trained Staff and departmental Syllabus with timely inspections and prepares the students for the SSLC State Board Examination. The first batch of 25 students passed the examination in November 1998 with 100% results. Sr Vidya L Pinto is the Co-Ordinator of this school at present. St Raymond’s  open school is a boon to the dropouts, giving them a bright future. 04 have applied for the same course during the academic year2024-25.

St Raymond’s  High School, Vamanjoor, which was a blessing to society in 1984, is losing its strength drastically due to the craze for English Medium schools. All through the years, the excellent results obtained in the Board examination reflect the high academic standards and dedicated work of the Staff. Virtues like honesty, trustworthiness, helpfulness, kindness, courtesy, and sacrificing spirit are taught in the school. Moral values are promoted through various programmes and regular school assemblies and classes. We have experienced the intercession of our Founder all through its journey. And we move ahead, trusting in the Providence of God, to impart 'Transformative education for the fullness of life for all, towards human fraternity' with renewed zeal and enthusiasm, taking the institution to the pinnacle of Glory.
