St. Joseph’s Convent, Shubadha

April 5th 2005 was a great day in the life of Shubadha, when a long-cherished dream of the Bethany sisters was realised as a new community was erected under the patronage of St Joseph.

Most Rev Dr Aloysius Paul D Souza, Bishop of Mangalore blessed the sisters’ residence, the cross in the chapel and the Tabernacle during the Eucharistic celebration. He addressed the gathering in the homily with the following words, ‘Shubadha receives women and young girls to live here and learn values of family life and to have direction in life’. In the year 2008 in September 2.28 acres of land was gifted to   the Congregation by   Mrs Theresa Pais, mother of   Dr Christopher Pais from Mallikatte, the donor of the Shubadha Trust Land. It has been registered in the name of the Congregation.

Rev Sr Jyoti the Superior General, her Councillors, Sr Inviolata the Provincial Superior, her Councillors, many sisters and parishioners were present for the occasion. Rev. Fr John Mendonca the Vicar of the Pezar Deanery, Rev. Fr Maxim Noronha, the parish priest of Ferar and Rev. Fr Cyprian Pinto the parish priest of Pompei Church, Gurpur too were present.

Rev Sr Jyoti, the Superior General erected the community of St Joseph’s Convent after the homily. Sr Juliana Monis is the first superior of the community with Sr Mabel and Sr Dencilla as first members.

After Mass there was a short felicitation programme. Sr Jyoti, the Superior General, the president of the programme honoured Ms Celine Aranha, Ms Olinda Pereira, the Founder Trustees, and Ms Tresa Pais the benefactor of Shubadha.

We are connected to the Parish of St Xavier’s Church Ferar. All parish priests have always been solicitous towards the growth of this Institute. Sisters are also involved in pastoral activities, such as, being in charge of the girls’ sodality, teaching Sunday Catechism, participating in the Church choir, attending meetings of Catholic Sabha, Parish Council, Deanery meetings, Small Christian Community Meetings in various wards of the parish and visiting families. Sisters get involved in all other parish activities and readily avail themselves whenever their services are required.
