“Keep awake therefore, for you do not know on what day the Lord is coming.” (Mt. 24/42)

These words of Jesus came true in the life of Sr. Mediatrice at the early hours of 22 march 2021, when He said, “Come my beloved and enter into the home of my father.” Without waiting to bid good bye to anyone, she suddenly followed Master’s Call and flew to heaven. Little did we know that 21″ evening would be her last supper with us. Unexpectedly on 22nd March 2021, Monday at 5.00 am much to our shock and surprise, she breathed her last due to massive cardiac arrest.

Sr Mediatrice BS nee Victoria A. Mukkath (90) was born on 15th September 1931 at Kolluvally in Ernakulum District of Kerala. She is the third among six children of late K V Augustine and late Anna. She was blessed with five siblings- four brothers and one sister. Her God fearing parents brought up their children with great love and care instilling in them deep faith in God. As a result both the girls of this family joined Bethany for the service of the Lord. Sr Beatrice BS, her elder sister had rendered meritorious service in Bethany for several years and entered heaven on 26th January 2016. Her two brothers in their advanced age are living in their families at Ernakulum.

After completing her Primary and High School education in her native place Kottuvally, Sr. Mediatrice joined Bethany in 1951 answering to God’s call. She made her First profession on 15 June 1953 and Perpetual Profession on 4th May 1960. On completion of her College education and B ED training at St. Agnes and St. Ann’s respectively. After qualifying herself in educational field she joined Sacred Hearts’ school Kulshekar and thereafter she continued to render service as Teacher and Headmistress in various institutions of the Congregation namely, Mulki, Sagar, Sirsi, Kinnikambla, Balkunje, Bajpe, Mudigere and Kinnigoli. Sr. Mediatrice has spent major period of her life in Educational Apostolate. All thro’ her teaching career of 34 years she has rendered service to the student community with love and dedication. She was an efficient, committed and hardworking teacher.

After her retirement in 1993, she was actively involved in various apostolates of the Congregation and the Diocese. She worked in CODP office of Mangalore Diocese for 3years; then as a Director of Karnataka Open School in Varnanjoor for 11 years helping young and drop outs to complete their SSLC Exam with academic and job oriented subjects. She also rendered service in L. M Pinto hospital in Badyar for two years. She readily accepted without hesitation, any type of job or service that was asked of her.

She was a valiant woman who could face any situation with courage and confidence. She had great devotion to the Blessed Sacrament and spent hours together in the Chapel before the Sacrament. She participated actively in Liturgy and common prayers and offered spontaneous prayers and prayed for various intentions with clear and loud voice. She was a devotee of Mother Mary too. As a young junior sister, she was privileged to live in close association with our Founder and hence often she would narrate a few incidents of Founder’s life where she felt his love, care and concern. She was interested in pastoral activities and involved in visiting the sick in the families, taking part in SCC meetings and helping the needy.

She was blessed with good health till the end of her life and was hale and active until her last day. Even during her ageing years, she could debate on varied subjects with wit and wisdom. 21″ March 2021, the Fifth Sunday of Lent was the last day of her earthly life. Everything was as usual. In the evening we had Congregational hour of adoration from 7.00 to 8.00 pm followed by supper. Sr. Mediatrice was present for both these activities of the community. None of us could guess that it was our final meeting with her that night. Much to our shock and surprise, on 22nd March 2021 Monday, she breathed her last at 5.00 am due to massive cardiac arrest. Sr Lydia, the Superior and the sisters of the community rushed to her room and commended her soul to the Creator. Fr. Praveen, SVD who had come to Maryvale to offer Mass in the morning offered prayers commending her soul to God and praying for her Eternal rest.

On hearing the death news of Sr. Mediatrice, I along with my Councilors visited the mortal remains and offered prayers for the departed soul. Sr Rose Celine the Superior General with her Councilors came and offered prayers. On 23rd March 2021 Tuesday, the sisters from local communities arrived early moming to pay their last respects to her.
