Blessed Fr RFC Mascrenahas sowed the seed ……He was a lover of the poor, specially the poor children. Like Gandhiji he was interested in the education of the children, especially primary education and therefore he not only started several primary schools but also saw the need of a teacher training institution to train up good teachers for these schools. His dream saw its fulfillment in July 1945 when on the second day of that month a Teacher Training Institution was started on a hill top near Gurpur with Sr Macrina as its first Headmistress.

 Appreciating the Swadeshi Movement of Mahatma Gandhi, the Founder brought the Training Institute under the pattern of Basic Education that was gathering momentum in the country.

From 1952 the Institute had another section added for the training of teachers (higher grade). The lower grade system of training was discontinued due to the change in the pattern of general education and the Teacher Certificate Higher Grade Training was continued. In 1956 under leadership of Sr Edburge BS the Institution secured permanent Recognition from the Director Of Public Instruction Bangalore. In 1975 the Institute celebrated its 30 years of existence. In the year 2004 TCH course got upgraded as Diploma in Education. There was lot of change done in the Syllabus and curricular and co-curricular activities. The students were exposed to different types of teaching methods. Our Institution completed 50 golden years in 1995. In 2005 the Institute celebrated 60 glorious years of fulfillment. The Institution is affiliated under National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE). In 2016 under the guidance of NCTE the course upgraded to Diploma in education and again it got revised as Diploma in Elementary Education. The  Institution  celebrated its Platinum Jubilee in the year 2020. .

The School is well equipped with a laboratory and a library provided by the Donor Agency, CEBEMO Holland. Sisters Edburge, Lelia, Theresine, Virginia and Divina, Concetta, Assumpta, Grace Ida succeeded Sr Macrina as heads of this institution.  Presently Mrs Lavina Lobo leads this renowned institution by carrying on the work in a dedicated manner with the help of her committed staff.  Right from its inception the Institute has a residential hostel for the trainees. The Institution has very high academic achievements too. Every year it secures either 100% or over 95% in II year and I year DElEd. Today there are 65 students studying in this Institution in 2 Classes. Every year 31 students go out of its portals to spread the light of knowledge and drive away the darkness of ignorance.
