Positive Discipline for Effective Classroom Management seminar at Sacred Hearts Kulshekar

Mrs Nirmala Pinto

A workshop on Positive Discipline for Classroom Management was held on 6th October 2025 in the School Hall. The programme was compered by Mrs Rajitha, with a welcome address by Mrs Shaina and a vote of thanks by Mrs Harinakshi.

Mr Joel K Tam emphasised creating a safe and supportive classroom that focuses on respect, responsibility, and self-discipline rather than punishment.

He advised listening to students’ opinions, avoiding humiliation, involving them in responsibilities, and respect. He suggested misbehaviour should be handled by identifying causes, redirecting energy, assigning responsibility.

Practical strategies discussed included establishing classroom rules together, effective planning, smooth transitions and balancing seriousness with humour.

He further highlighted the need for teacher unity and consistency, as well as the role of recognition—through praise, star charts, rotating opportunities, and appreciating kindness and effort—in motivating students.

The session concluded with the message: “Discipline is not about control. It is about respect, trust, and building a learning family where every student feels valued and every teacher leads with dignity”.
