Madeleine High School, Mulki

Madeleine is the fruit of the far sighted vision of the servant of God Mgr RFC Mascarenhas the Founder of Bethany.  It took its birth on June 1st 1946.

The servant of God Mgr RFC Mascarenhas had seen the struggles of Mulki Children walking six miles and going to Kinnigoli to get value based catholic Education at Little Flower High School run by Bethany sisters.  Having seen this urgent need and also at the request of the local people he started Madeleine High School from 5th to 11th std in 1946 before India got Independence

From 1946 to 1958 Fr RFC Mascarenhas administered the school personally.  Then he handed its care to Bethany Education Society, Mangalore.  Till then Miss Alice Pinto a dedicated, hard working, energetic and efficient headmistress, whose entire life was spent at Madeleine helped Fr RFC in administering the school.  She continued to be the Headmistress till her death in 1967. Then onwards Sr Ann Tresa, Sr Hycinth, Sr Mediatrice, Sr Gladys, Sr Christella, Sr Divina, Sr Marie Ange, Sr Leonita, Sr Rose Flora, Sr Joyceline Sr Felcine Fernandes, Sr Vidya L Pinto, Sr Marissa Lucy Pinto  continued to be the Headmistress and gave shape and colour to the school.  At present Sr Jacintha D Souza heads the school.

Though the school was started only for girls later it admitted boys.  Till 1994 it was a composite School.  Later it was bifercated as High School and Higher Primary because of the Government rules.

In 1988 under the able leadership of Sr Christella the then Head Mistress with the support of the PTA the new High School building was constructed.  It celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1996 under the leadership of the then Headmistress Sr Divina.  Now it is 79 years old. 

There are 4 teaching and 1non teaching staff working for the development of the school under the able leadership of Sr Jacintha D Souza.  During the last academic year school secured 96.50% and this year 96.50%. There are 132 students in the High School.  There is a good Band, Scouts and Guides, Clubs like YSM, ECO, and Science, Interact and Sahitya Sanga. Students are divided into houses such as Sathya, Sadaya, Vinaya, Vinoda and Various competitions are held in and between these houses.

During the year various co-curricular activities are conducted like Gandhi Jayanti, Inter religious Prayers, Christmas day, Madeleine day, Deepavali, Ramzan etc. to grow in God Experience two days retreat was arranged for all the 10th std. students and Bethany core values are taught.

Career guidance, slow learners of all the classes and specially X standard are given special coaching.  Parent teachers Association has played a great role in the development of the school and supported during the past years. At present Sr Mariola BS is the Correspondent of the School.
