Bethany Convent, Kollangana

The parish of Kollangana of Mangalore Diocese is in Kasaragod deanery in Kerala State. The parish priest Rev Fr Oswald Monteiro of St Thomas Church Kollangana had expressed his desire to the Superior General Sr Jyothi and requested to open a convent in his parish to render pastoral and social service to the people of this backward area. Taking in to consideration of the request of the parish priest the superior general requested the provincial superior of Mangalore province to look into the matter. With the help of the parish priest the provincial superior was able to locate a suitable place in Bela village under Badiadka Grama panchayath within half a kilometer from the parish and purchased 5.38 Acres of the land with 800 areca nut and 125 coconut trees and a newly built house from Narayana Bhat from Kasaragod. It was registered on 15^th and 17^th of July 2002 at Badiadka Grama Panchayat Registers office. This is the first Bethany community in Kasaragod Deanery.

Ever since the sisters from Bethany Provincialate Mangalore moved there particularly Sr Agnes Pinto. The provincial councilor took a great interest to renovate the house by painting and other repair work. A batch of Novices went over there for the village exposure in the month of September 2002. A months retreat was conducted for the Tertians in the month of January 2003. The counseling course of 10 day by mother Sylvine was conducted for a batch of sisters of Mangalore province. In between sisters from the Mangalore province were staying there. Mr Johny a neighbor was appointed as the watchman during the day.

The community was erected on 28^th May 2003.
