Loretto Convent, Moodubelle

It was the keen interest of Rev Fr AED Souza ( Fr Abundies DSouza ) the then parish priest who invited the Bethany sisters in order to meet the local needs like teaching in the church school and to give religious instructions both in the school and church duties. So on 31^st May 1964, the first 3 sisters started their mission at Moodubelle.            Sr Emiline being the first Superior, Sr Hilda and Sr Fabiola were the pioneers of the mission.

The sisters started their mission in a rented house with 2 rooms. Late Bishop B S DSouza, the then Bishop of Mangalore diocese granted the permission to erect a convent building in the church property. The new mission of Hospital ministry  and a nursery classes were extended but due to lack of hospital personal this mission was discontinued . Sisters also empowered the women, thro’ Mahila Mandal tailoring classes, later bag preparations. Gradually the number of sisters increased.

All the sisters interested in teaching catechism, animating sodalities, SCC  meeting , family visits, faith formation  camp etc.

Recently sister retired from teaching staff. Kannada medium school is closed down. At present 3 sisters are involved in pastoral work.
