‘Home Mission’ was arranged in two Parishes, viz. St Antony Church, Padukone, Udupi diocese and Holy Cross Church, Manjotti, Mangalore diocese from April 26 to May 4, 2025.

Srs Shalet Dsouza, Suma, Florine, Jyothi, Prameela Dsouza, Deepthi Roshni and Sujatha Ekka—formed three dedicated teams and visited a total of 270 families in Padukone parish. The mission was not only a pastoral outreach but also a celebration of community life rooted in prayer and mutual care.

The mission began with a vibrant celebration of the Teenagers’ Jubilee, emphasizing the importance of the Word of God in the lives of youth. This event set the tone for the entire week, encouraging deeper faith and engagement among young people.

Throughout the mission week, the sisters went from house to house, bringing with them the comforting presence of prayer and spiritual conversation. The families warmly welcomed them, demonstrating a deep sense of unity, hospitality, and faith. The parishioners’ strong values were clearly visible—in their commitment to education, their resilience in facing life’s challenges, and the supportive roles played by elders in their homes.

However, the visit also brought to light several areas of concern. Some individuals were found to be struggling with alcohol addiction, while others faced psychological difficulties requiring both pastoral care and professional help. A few families, despite enjoying material comforts, expressed a lack of peace and emotional fulfillment. Certain homes showed a sense of distance or hesitation, hinting at deeper personal struggles or past wounds.

The community also contends with environmental challenges such as frequent flooding and a shortage of clean drinking water, which add to the burdens of daily life.

Srs Rita Felcy, Monica Rebello, Precilla Dsouza, Sunita Mary Dsouza and Felcy Veigas- embarked on the journey with zeal at Holy Cross Church, Manjotti. The first three days were spent in conducting ‘Summer Camp’ for the children. Children’s participation was heartwarming-learning Bible quotes, songs and enacting skit. The camp concluded with a joyful campfire, leaving cherished memories in everyone’s hearts. Sisters visited 80 houses of the Parish, life of simplicity, spirit of prayer and notable absence of alcoholism was an inspiration. Several local vocations to religious life, is a testament to the community’s deep-rooted faith.

In conclusion, the Home Mission at Padukone and Manjotti was a testament to God’s presence among His people and the enduring strength of faith-filled communities. The sisters expressed heartfelt gratitude for the opportunity to serve and nurture bonds with the families and look forward to continuing their mission of love and service.

We’re grateful to Rev Fr Francis Cornelio and Rev Fr Praveen Dsouza Sr Lilly Perera, Provincial Superior, and Sr Flavia Wilma, Coordinator for Social and Pastoral Work-  of  Mangalore Province, for providing us with this prime opportunity to serve and grow through the home mission.
